African Coelacanth

The African Coelacanth is a remarkably ancient fish, resembling a fossil from the Devonian period. These critically endangered fish possess a unique, lobe-finned body structure and are found only in a small number of rivers in Tanzania. Scientists continue to study them to learn more about the evolution of vertebrates.
